Sending Money to the USA
Sending Dollars to American bank accounts via a ‘Swift’ transfer usually takes no more than 24 hours from the UK.
To make a transfer to an American bank, you will need the following information:
- Account Number
- ABA or Routing Code
- Name of Beneficiary (and address if you have it)
- Name of Bank (and address if you have it)
- Any other routing instructions (eg, send via a particular routing bank)
Occasionally, a Swift or BIC code will be used instead of an ABA or Routing Code. Sometimes both are used, but as long as you have one or the other, the payment should not be delayed.
The ABA or Routing Number is a 9 digit bank code which is used in the United States to identify which financial institution the payment is sent to.
